Galiano Island

EXPLORE

Galiano Island is the perfect island for a getaway. Set in the Salish Sea, our island is accessible by seaplane, private boat or with BC Ferries so you can bring your car with you. Galiano's pristine environment boasts many unique and endangered plant species as well as being home to over 150 species of birds. You'll also see deer, beavers, raccoons and even peacocks! Our coastlines are full of life and spotting orcas, humpbacks, seals, otters, and sea lions is an incredible experience that you will never forget.

We have a vibrant culture here and days can be filled with visits to art studios, local shops, marina, golf course, cafes and eateries. Outdoor adventure experiences are always waiting: hiking, swimming, beachcombing, kayaking, sailing and more. Relaxation is ever-present and reflected in our "island time," one of those delightful double entendres: On the one hand it refers to pace, a certain slack attitude towards the clock. But it also refers to time well spent, away, in a place that refreshes the spirit and cleanses the soul.

Getting here

BC Ferries: From the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal on the mainland, we're only a short 50-minute ride away, and often the first stop. Reservations are highly recommended. If you are coming to Galiano from Vancouver Island, take the ferry from Swartz Bay. Get there early as reservations are not offered. Visit bcferries.com or call 1-888-223-3779 (1-888-BCFERRY).If coming as a foot passenger, we are happy to provide transportation to/from the ferry terminal for stress-free travelling.

By air: Seair Seaplanes travel daily between downtown Vancouver or the Vancouver International Airport and Galiano's Montague Harbour.

By private boat: Montague Harbour Marina offers moorage with power and a gas dock. It can get crowded in the high season so we recommend booking ahead. A public dock is located near Montague Harbour Marina and another in Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park. While mooring buoys cannot be reserved, the harbour is well sheltered should you need to anchor. The Woodstone offers free transportation to/from the Marina if you would like to come dine with us!

Island Culture

We are a leisurely 15-minute walk where you can shop for food at "The Corner Store" for a full range of groceries and beer, wine and spirits and at "The Daystar Market" for a great selection of fresh veggies and fruit and specialty items (Think wine and cheese on our fantastic patio!). At the Daystar, enjoy an espresso and browse for unique gifts at "Solomon Rose Cafe and Gallery". "Ixchel Craft Shop" offers you a lovely selection of local and international goods. Grab a mid-day bite to eat at a local favourite, "The Flying Black Dog" or cross the street and enjoy the Asian creations of chef Orion Finnie at Wild1 Cookhouse for dinner. The Hummingbird Pub is close-by as well and a popular stop for a meal.

The shops on Madrona Drive by the ferry are a delight to visit. Pick a special blend of tea at the Loose Leaf Tea and Papery, browse the shelves of our proudly independent bookstore, Galiano Island Books, and enjoy THE best cinnamon buns (and much more) at the Sturdies Bay Bakery. Atrevida Restaurant offers you fine dining with an ocean view. Just up the road, you'll find freshness and good cheer guaranteed at Babes in the Woods eatery and a great selection of local arts and crafts at Art & Soul Craft Gallery.
